It’s all about the bat wings – oops – triceps!

Love ’em, hate ’em – there comes a time when we may get batwings – just unfortunately not the super hero kind!

So what exactly are they?

Anatomically wise we’re referring to the muscles at the back of the upper arm. We generally use our biceps – the muscles at the front of the upper arm, daily. Our triceps are a little more tricky. They extend the arm – or straighten the elbow – think push ups, pushing prams or trolley’s. We have to make an extra effort to keep our triceps muscles toned otherwise they end up “hanging” – toneless from our arms!

So you can see the fabulous tone in the highlighted green muscle – now picture it toneless and hanging and voila there’s your bingo wings!

Easiest Cure:

Prevent them from happening! Keep some upper body work going and make sure some triceps based exercises are in your fitness schedule – even if its as basic as standing push ups against the wall or on the kitchen counter – just remember to keep your elbows in towards your side rather than sticking out to activate triceps instead of pecs.
