Do you need to hit the Reset Button with your pain?


As a physio of 25+ years, most people have their set preferences, ideas and who they feel comfortable with, especially when it comes to managing pain.

We ourselves have a wonderful  mix of clients, some of who who will go to their ‘standard’ or more  local physio when they have a simple issue to fix – such as a headache, ankle, knee pain, but they prefer to come to us when they have  a complex issue.

And to be honest – we take that as a compliment – if their ‘own’ physio can’t fix it – they come to us.

It’s like we’re the ‘botched’ for physio!

That’s not to say we can’t see the simple things – we can obviously get great results with acute things seen in a timely manner, but it takes a special something to have the patience to sit down and work through years of chronic dysfunction or pain – and in that arena – we truly excel!

Why? because we care and because we can!

With experience comes knowledge – knowledge about what works and why.

Knowledge about knowing how far to push or when not to push

Knowledge about where you can make small changes that can achieve maximum impact.

And knowledge that we GIVE to empower our clients – if they understand what and why they have an issue from – you can then get on and deal with it!

I used to spend a lot of my time getting frustrated – clients would come in and get ‘fixed’ and then come back again – and not know why. Truth was – we told them – you need to do XYZ to maintain what’s going on – but truth be told – if you feel better and pain has gone its human nature to stop. There’s nothing reminding you.

So a while later – the issue returns – you’re frustrated and then came back saying things are working for you.

We get frustrated cos w think you don’t ‘get it’ you get frustrated cos your’re not staying improved.

So my big shift was to start being completely honest with clients – if you’re not gonna do what I ask you to – please say – you’re then not wasting your time and mine and we both know where we stand!

You as a client have to buy into the value that doing exercise or stretches or release or changing habits and all the benefits that that brings…if you are a ‘passive participant’ in your care you are missing out on a huge range of tools that can keep you better for longer. By not understanding the impact that changing habits can have, you leave yourself open to a continues relentless struggle.

I learnt to adopt methods I had learnt from working with neurological clients and began to try and restore normal function and movement as a main line of management – clients in pain and ‘dysfunction’ over time developed habits and ways of moving that were not optimal. Muscles get weak, tight, short, long, weak, in-active, over active – all of which in the clients eyes was then their ‘normal’. They didn’t recognise that HOW they were moving and using their bodies was also CAUSING their pain and issues. No one had told them.

By trying to get those muscles , joints and movement patterns back towards a more normal  and natural state, the body becomes lighter, freer to move and movement means less pain. This required you KNOWING what the problem is and KNOWING what you need to do about it.

You know when your phone is in over load – apps have gone crazy, things just aren’t happening, and it just gets ‘stuck’ or takes forever to do something – or just plain doesn’t work.

What do we do – we hit the ‘restore to factory setting’ button – that’s exactly what you need to do with your body – reset it to where and when it was happy.


We eliminate the doubt as you learn to recognise what causes your pain and how and what you need to do to fix it, (heads up it’s not always what the MRI scan shows!).

It’s your call whether you take our word for it and do it  – but our method works because WE WORK WITH YOU….

We can get your pain to reduce and then show you the tools you need to stay better. And if you have a set back – you go back to doing what you need to.

We work with you so you get stronger and have the ability to move and function without fear. 

Our clients are empowered. They know what they need to do and when they need to do it. They know why they get their pain and the causative and resolving factors. They can stay active and get back to living life the way they want to instead of the way their body used to dictate it.
