We Want Pain Free And We Want It NOW!

When we want things to happen or want things to change or be pain free… we want to get there straight away.

We all want fast results. Quick wins. Minimal effort.

It’s just in our nature 

We may try a couple of things and we may have some success…

We may try a couple of things.. and have no effect or even go backwards 

When it comes to health, pain, injury or training the body… the key to successful management is all in the steps.

The steps it will take to get you from where you are now to where you want to be.

The closer you are to your outcome… the easier results can be achieved

The further away you are… the more potential roadblocks you may encounter.

How does that translate to health?

If we take an ankle sprain or back pain as examples.

If you just roll your ankle and sprain it, or just tweak your back whilst gardening… There’s no real major issue going on.

You had normal joints, they responded the right way. They swell to protect you and you protect your body for a couple of days, pain reduces and you get back on your way quite quickly. 

It may take 3 weeks to feel fully ok but all is good  it’s a small hiccup.

Not many steps to overcome:

  • Rest 24- 48 hours whilst its sore ×/- swollen
  • Start gently moving as you can in a safe range
  • Seek help if it hurts
  • Return to normal activity as you’re able

Now, when you have numerous ankle sprains or  numerous incidences of back pain… then things get a bit trickier.

We have the same steps as above but in addition we have a different start point.

We have  years of injury upon injury to take into account.

We are no longer starting from an optimum ankle or back that has been working and being used normally.

We’re starting from a point where we are already “sub optimal”.

Our body may have  the following issues:

  • We in a whole heap of pain already
  • We change what we do to accommodate pain
  • The way we walk has altered due to repeated strains
  • Our muscles have got weaker 
  • Our muscles have got tighter
  • We’ve lost flexibility
  • We’ve lost movement and range in the area 
  • We’ve lost strength
  • We’ve lost coordination and balance 
  • We’ve lost reaction time, fluidity and speed in the area
  • We lose alignment in our body and tissues 
  • We lose efficient and effective movement
  • We walk and move differently 
  • Our posture and how we use our body changes
  • We may be in a state where we are in pain all the time
  • We are afraid of moving
  • We are afraid of re injury
  • We are afraid to stretch
  • We stop doing activity
  • We stop using our body
  • We are in pain and restrict our movement further

And the spiral continues.

So in chronic issues and chronic pain…we have NUMEROUS steps to address.

And whilst you can do a lot of them yourself…. The results vary greatly.

We see many who say..

  • Yes I’ve done release for right muscles but that’s not it.. the problem just comes back..

Well it will  it’s tightening up for a reason and if it’s because its opposite muscles are weak… It will always tighten up as there’s no opposite muscle stopping it.

  • I’ve tried stretches but they don’t work something else starts to hurt

They won’t work if you have numerous joints and muscles involved… as you release and stretch one muscle..  you then feel the tightness of the next muscle along the chain.

  • I can get pain free for a day and that’s it. Nothing has helped.

It’s GREAT you can get pain free. That means things are changeable. What hasn’t been fixed is the WHY and that’s our job to help you with.

It’s like having a worn down or blown out tyre and just fixing the tyre and expecting it to stay new when you don’t realign it.

It’s like putting more oil and water in the air but ignoring the leak that’s there.

It’s just fire fighting

It’s not addressing the elephant in the room.

Re align the body, work out what the problem is and take the steps that need to happen to get there.

When you have had pain for YEARS or a recurrent injury that keeps happening..  you are just putting band aids on

You need help to see what’s going on under all of those layers so we can then go through the steps you need.to take to get you moving and functioning the way you want to.

OR.. just fire fight… and keep on adding more steps that will need fixing when you eventually decide you’re ready for help.

The funny thing is… many of our clients who have been in pain for years… can get pain free within a couple of weeks….
